Blaber Lab Retreat 2009

Amelia Island, Florida

May 11-13 2009 the lab rented a 5-bedroom house on Amelia Island, Florida (just north of Jacksonville on the Atlantic coast).  On the first day we rented Segway “personal transporters” and did some (all too brief) exploration of part of the island.  It was really a lot of fun.

We have arrived and are very excited… (especially Liam).  Joanne keeps Winston from falling down (tragically, he still did. Several times.  No one else did).

First there is the obligatory training video.  The main lesson here is that there are countless ways to fall down and get a concussion.

Jihun really likes her helmet.  I do not trust the tires on this Segway.

Helmets first, and then learning how to step on the Segway without falling down.

Sachiko has questions and concerns about this particular Segway.  Toffy has the perfect slightly bent knee posture.

The cone obstacle training course provides training in how to turn. Jihun zips through like Juan Manuel Fangio.

On the road at last!

I think we were supposed to go single file.  The instructor is not amused.

Liam is trying to overtake me. The trip goes through residential neighborhoods as well as the local jungle.

Survived!  And back at base camp.
